ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA Literally means eight limbs. It Is a yoga system created in the early 20th century by Sri T. Krishnamacharya and his student Sri K Pattabhi Jois. The Ashtanga vinyasa practice consist of a dynamic, flowing sequence of postures that coordinate movement with breath and gaze. When practiced consistently and over time, Ashtanga yoga has the potential to gradually develop one’s physical and psychological health

VINYASA IS A BREATH AND MOVEMENT SYSTEM. In Ashtanga yoga we aim to connect the breathing and movement when transitioning in and out of every posture, in order to keep the mind in the moment. By using the vinyasa between the poses we train the mind to return again and again to being present. I find this is one of the most challenging aspects in the ashtanga yoga practice but with consistency it improves. Some days controlling my mind and connecting it to the breath is quite a challenge, but on the days that the movement is in harmony with my  breath - I fly.

WHEN I FIRST STEPPED INTO A YOGA  class I didn’t know what is Ashtanga yoga. I loved the challenge, the balance between flexibility and strength and the sound and sensation of the breathing. I realised there’s something about this practice that I don’t get from any other physical activity I do. I was hooked. And about 20 years later- I still am
